Bucket collection at Southport FC

We had a bucket collection at Southport Football Club this afternoon and that raised £167. Thanks go to the collectors who braved the cold!

Shame Southport lost to Halifax Town though.

90th Anniversary Celebration Dinner

Our 90th Anniversary Celebration Dinner was a great success last night.

This special event took place at the Old Links Golf Club in Southport and over 40 people came to join in the celebrations. The meal was delicious and professionally served by the Old Links staff.

Chairman Peter Mowat made a speech reflecting on how the Centre for the Deaf has progressed during its 90 years and he gave thanks to his Committee, especially to Tony Wright and to Dorothy Caven for organising this event.

A big THANK YOU to everyone who supported this event and to all who continue to support the Centre.

Buffet for three special birthdays

Today we celebrated three special birthdays: Happy Birthday wishes go to Pauline Millington, Pauline Tierney and Tom Doran.

A lovely buffet was laid out for everyone to enjoy. In the middle of the table was a cake with sunshine and a rainbow on. It even had sparklers!

Thanks go to Tomlyn Caterers for the food and to Carol Holden for bringing the cake.

Celebrating St Patrick’s Day

Here are our two volunteers Lucy and Polly celebrating St Patrick’s Day at the Centre.

Lovely service held for Jack Henderson

As previously reported, Jack Henderson‘s funeral took place yesterday at Lord St West Church (13 March). It was a lovely service and the following card was given out when leaving.

A card and donation of £25 to Hearing Dogs was given to Howards Funeral Directors.

You can read the eulogy presented by Rev. Peter O Hughes during the service here.

Funeral details for Jack Henderson

On 1 March, we announced the death of former Chairman Jack Henderson. His funeral will be held on Friday 13 March at Lord St West Church in Southport at 1.15pm. This will be followed by a private committal. Family flowers only, but donations can be made to Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. After the funeral, the family invites mourners to the Masonic Hall on Duke Street (opposite the church) to celebrate Jack’s life.

Former Chairman Jack Henderson has passed away

Former Chairman Jack Henderson passed away peacefully last night (28 February). He was Chairman at the Centre for many years but most people will remember him as a teacher at Birkdale School.
